Three blind stamped borders on the cover. Boards are slightly warped. A gift inscription, dated 1908, and inscribed "To the Red Queen & The Gryphon," is on the front endpage. Endpages are tanning. Forty-two illustrations by John Tenniel. Lovely miniature edition. The Miniature Edition appeared in July, 1907. Reprinted September and December, 1907, 1908. Wrapped in mylar.

Previous editions were 2 volume sets. Title page dated 1887. Hinges cracked, front and back. Blank pages between endpage and title page are missing. Pages i-x are an introduction to Niolai Gogol. 372 pages. Corners worn, as well as top and bottom of spine. Spine is darkened.

First printing. Light blue and red, illustrated jacket has small tears and chips around the edges. 1/4 inch missing at top and bottom of spine. Unclipped jacket with $4.00 price. Green cloth covered boards in beautiful condition with darker green spine. Blind stamped in bottom right corner. Previous owner's name neatly written at the very top of the inside front cover. Hard to find jacket. Book is in excellent condition overall.

Original navy blue cloth covered boards with gilt text on the spine only. Part of the American Crisis Biography series. A rare first edition, published in September, 1909. No other printings listed. Ex-library with library markings. Call number on the spine and inside front cover. City Library property stamp on title page and page 99. Accession number 56 is on page 99 and the inside back cover. Front and back hinges have been repaired with cloth tape. Edited by Ellis Paxson Oberholtzer, Ph. D. Black and white picture of John Brown with his printed signature on frontispiece. Tissue cover has a closed tear. Tanned shadow of previous card pocket on inside back cover and facing endpage. Small pieces of cloth missing at top and bottom of the spine. Gilt top edge. Bottom corners worn to board. A rare find.

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Beautiful reprint from 1938. Black and yellow unclipped jacket is in wonderful condition with a few small tears around the edges. Looks like new. Black text with yellow and white background and black, green, and white illustration on the front. Note on front cover - Awarded Pulitzer Prize.  Front flap has a black and white picture of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, notes about the book, and a printed note that the book was printed in wartime conditions  The note is repeated on the verso of the title page. Price at top of flap is 149149. No markings except penciled price at top of front endpage. Green cloth covered boards with navy text and illustration on the cover. Small nick in the cloth at the bottom edge of the front cover. Decorations by Edward Shenton. Grosset & Dunlap Publishers by arrangement with Charles Scribner's Sons.
