This a book of children's songs with accompanying pictures. The illustrations are beautiful, with brilliant colors, and much detail. "He [Crane] is considered to be the most influential, and among the most prolific, children's book creators of his generation and, along with Randolph Caldecott and Kate Greenaway, one of the strongest contributors to the child's nursery motif that the genre of English children's illustrated literature would exhibit in its developmental stages in the later 19th century." (Wikipedia) The book was originally published in 1877. Although the cover shows quite a bit of wear, the inside pages, with illustrations, are still bright and clear. Book is wrapped in mylar.

The date of the Emancipation Proclamation was incorrect. This copy has a strip of paper with the correct date pasted over the original text by the publisher. It is signed by both authors. Both names are written in the same hand. 1940 publication date. 1939 copyright. No jacket. Extensive wear on all edges. Corners and edges worn to board. Cloth tearing at the bottom of the spine. Beautiful color lithography on paper covered boards. Blue cloth spine. Small brown spots (chocolate?) on several pages. Oil has bled through to adjoining pages. Back endpage is torn with bottom half missing. The book is in poor condition, but is a Signed First Edition, which is scarce. Priced accordingly.
Second copy is a later printing, published by Doubleday & Company, no publication date. Price on the jacket is $2.75. Green cloth on the spine. Small amount of shelf wear on the top and bottom edges. No names or markings in book. Mylar cover to protect the dust jacket. Two tiny wear spots on the cover, one at bottom back of the cover and one at top of spine. Beautiful early edition with corrected date and unclipped jacket.
